Material Girl Earrings

I like the juxtaposition of  the tactile qualities of fiber, fabric, and thread with hard objects like metal in jewelry.

I have been making these wrapped hoop earrings using bamboo and hemp cording and adding embellishments such as metal and glass seed beads.  Natural fibers not only provide color but lots of room for creativity in jewelry making.

Notte Bianca Firenze – White Night Florence 2012

We just happened to be on vacation in Florence, Italy on April 30th for one of the biggest celebrations of the year where art, dance, music, and culture all MERGE.

This photo, taken in the Piazzo I Love Disco, MERGES the contemporary light show against the ancient buildings.

I love Safari Style. It is a fashion trend that keeps returning, albeit with new twists on the theme. The colors tend to stay the same – khaki, olive green, white, ebony – with some occasional bright colors thrown in such as yellows, oranges and reds. Patterns and textures are key elements as well, such as animal skins, and linen or hemp.

Safari style connotes travel, adventure, romance, and comfort. What’s not to love about that! I made these earrings with Safari Style in mind and I think they would go well with these two dresses from the Emilio Pucci Resort 2012 Collection.

Weekly Photo Challenge: Wrong

At first glance, it appears that the ring finger is the WRONG color compared to the rest of the nails. But no, this is just a new trend in nail fashion. It is pretty much “anything goes” these days and nail painting has essentially become an art form. From the length and shape of the nail, to the colors, to the designs and patterns, it truly is just the “tip of the fingernail” in this trend. Below is my DIY version.
